After returning home we then caught a plane in late October to Boulder Colorado to see our son David, his wife Alli and our other two grand kids Jack and Kate. Although we love living here in the western mountains of North Carolina we always seem so far from loved ones. It was a fun trip and a wonderful visit that took us through Halloween.
We returned home to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas in Blowing Rock. Then, on the weekend after Christmas we packed the SUV and headed back to St. Petersburg, FL to spend a belated Christmas with our daughter and her family. They kept the tree up just for us.
In retrospect that was the worst time to head down to Florida. The traffic on both I-26 in South Carolina and I-95 into Florida was the heaviest we had every experienced!
There were only a couple of accidents…just mostly “billions” of cars with families doing the same thing we were doing; heading down where it was warm!
Believe you me; my calendar is now marked in bold letters, "Never Travel South the First of the weekend after Christmas!"
